Thursday September 16

Assignments to have been completed for this week

  • For the research project: If you haven't already, one person from each team should post their names and topic on the research project documentation page, here in the wiki. That will allow me to take a look at them before next week. Remember both people should be using the wiki, try the discussion tab.
  • Work with your lab partner to hone your research design table--finalize it, and bring it with you.
    • Begin thinking of how you will obtain materials
    • Decide how you want to organize your notes (cards or packet); Have cards or packet ready for our fieldtrip to the library...(electronic version of the packet is available on the assignments page...called the MLA Documentation Work Sheet)
  • Complete the Library Research Questions here in the wiki (post to the document sharing page)
  • Meet on the top floor (6th) of Milner next week---look at the announcements for more details later in the week

Housekeeping

  • Turn in updated research design table
  • Library research questions...all groups organized?
  • Assignments that require feedback. I may have a full week as the deadline, but feedback is a tricky thing. The quicker you get something completed, the quicker you get feedback.

What to do in the library today

  • Research Project
    • You can NOT start taking notes until your research questions are approved. Check your research project document sharing page to find out! My notes are in red.
    • Begin finding resources to answer your research questions (in pairs, can divide these between you) Remember I posted some free online science journals on the research project links page...I had posted that in the announcements.
      • Take notes
        • don't write in complete sentences
        • get bib information (MLA)
        • STAY ORGANIZED
  • Hands-On or STEM Kit research
  • Before you leave today:
    • Show proof of note-taking...I'll be looking for good organization & appropriate note taking skills (This is a grade!)
    • As a research pair: sit down to talk with me about your research design, and ask general questions

Assignments to have completed for next week (Sept 23)

  • Note Check: Bring in your notecards or packet...must have notes in for research questions--another grade. If you are doing them electronically, could you email (or give me a google link) by 8:00 the morning of class?
  • Email me a list of any materials you may need to borrow before next class session
  • Read Part 5: Writing a Hypothesis (don't do SH # 4 yet...we'll do it together in class.)
  • Continue working on your Hands-On project
  • Post your partners for STEM Kit challenge....on the STEM Kit page I'll be pairing you up with 307 students soon.
